MARIE THOMAS SCHOLARSHIP FOR MASTER OF ARTS IN PHILOSOPHY

This scholarship opportunity is intended for persons who have a passion for intellectual pursuit
and an academic career in the field of Philosophy.
The Marie Thomas Scholarship provides full and partial sponsorship opportunities for the degree
of Master of Arts in Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies (DPRS)
of the Dominican University, Ibadan
This is a highly competitive scholarship opportunity. Applicants for this scholarship opportunity
must demonstrate a need for this sponsorship opportunity and a strong sense of motivation to
undertake an academic career.
Application Requirements
To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Have received a letter of admission to study for a Master of Arts in Philosophy at the
Dominican University, Ibadan
- Present a Bachelor of Arts degree certificate in Philosophy
- Have a minimum of 4.0 CGPA on a 5-point grading system or its equivalent in other
grading systems.
- Be less than 35 years of age at the time of application.
Submission of Application Documents
Applicants must submit a copy of the following documents:
- Letter of admission to the MA Philosophy programme
- Transcript of Academic Records
- Degree certificate in Philosophy
- Birth Certificate
- Application letter for the scholarship
- Statement of Purpose for the MA Philosophy programme
Complete application documents are to be sent electronically as attachments at once to the
Scholarship Board of the Dominican University, Ibadan, via the following email address: scholarships@dui.edu.ng
Number of Scholarships Available
The Scholarship Board shall award two (2) full scholarships and four (4) partial scholarships for
the MA Philosophy programme.
Teaching Assistantship Conditionality
Since this scholarship is geared toward academic career development, scholarship awardees for
the MA Philosophy programme must commit to serving at the Department of Philosophy and
Religious Studies, Dominican University, Ibadan, as teaching assistants.
Teaching assistantship for awardees of the partial scholarship option shall be for one semester
only. This shall typically be the third semester of the MA Philosophy programme.
However, awardees of the full scholarship option shall serve as teaching assistants for two
semesters beginning from the third semester of the programme.
Scholarship Award Process
To be awarded the Marie Thomas Scholarship, applicants must undergo a screening exercise at the
Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
The Department recommends candidates to the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies for a final
decision to be taken.
Successful applicants would be notified accordingly by the Scholarship Board of the Dominican
University, Ibadan.
Relevant Deadlines
Application for this scholarship is open until September 12, 2025
Successful applicants shall be notified by September 30, 2025.
